Undoubtedly, you’ve heard of the Louvre jewelry heist. I will put money down a movie studio already has the rights to turn this into a flick starring Nicolas Cage and Tom Cruise. ANYWAY…this will probably be talked about for awhile so why not create a promotion around it? You’ll need a jewelry store you have a solid relationship with.
The idea is to have your own jewelry “heist.” NO we aren’t going into the actual jewelry store. Here’s how it will work…this can be set up in a bar or wherever you have the “blowout party” (been awhile since you’ve heard that term, huh?). You’ll have about 5 boxes and 5 contestants. Each box has a necklace or pair of earrings. HOWEVER…only one box will have real jewelry in it! They each pick a box and have to smash it open (ala Louvre thieves). Here’s the catch…they won’t know if the jewelry is real right away. Each piece of jewelry will be in that jewelry store’s jewelry boxes. They can open the jewelry box but only one of them will be real. If you want to get really crazy, you can have an actual jeweler on hand with a loupe. The contestants have to take their jewelry to the jeweler and he’ll look at it through the loupe. After looking at everyone’s jewelry, he will announce whose is real!
How you get your contestants is completely up to you. It would be great if you had a box at the jewelry store itself where people can put their name in to become a contestant. This brings traffic into the jewelry store which will make the client very happy.
Anytime something huge like this happens is a great opportunity to create a quick promotion around it. This doesn’t take a lot of planning and as long as it’s in the budget, it can be a ton of fun!
