It’s Time to Think Outside the Box with Father’s Day Promotions

According to Pew Research Center, dads are spending triple the amount of time on child care than what their grandfathers paid. The amount of stay at home dads has gone up significantly. The role of fatherhood has modified.

Mother’s Day is this weekend so it’s time to start turning our focus to Father’s Day. This year it lands on June 16th. In order to develop a successful Father’s Day promotion, you need about a month to actually promote it. Hopefully, you’ve already been brainstorming ideas with the group on what would be best for your specific type of listener.

Gone are the days of only promoting giveaways with power tools and grills, and the most manly things you can think of for Father’s Day. According to Pew Research Center, dads are spending triple the amount of time on child care than what their grandfathers paid. The amount of stay at home dads has gone up significantly. The role of fatherhood has modified.

Other Dad Stats from dadchatchannel.com:

  • Back in the day, the dads were the main bread winners and the moms identified with being the caregiver to the child.
  • Now, dads are taking on the role of a child care-giver more…they aren’t only identifying with work.
  • There are about 2 million single dads today.
  • The average dad is about 30 years old.

This being said, maybe it’s time to re-evaluate the Father’s Day giveaways. We spend a LOT more on Mother’s Day than we do on Father’s Day. However, with the new stats we see there are a lot more dads out there taking on the motherhood role, or even taking on both roles. Spa days for moms is always a great giveaway. What about a spa day for dad? Yea yea, I know, they still want to be masculine. You can tie this into something masculine as well. I urge you to take a poll in your building…make it anonymous…ask all the dads, if they were offered a spa day, would they take it? I think you’d be surprised by the answer. EVERYONE loves to be pampered! It can even be as simple as a facial and massage. That’s all…tie it into a dinner with the boys and drinks after. You don’t have to go feminine on something  like this…but dads deserve a rest day too. Maybe a fishing trip would be great to combine with a massage! Think outside the box and try to come up with something that caters to your type of listener, but also allows the dad to rest and relax. Get Pampered and a Camper….if you have the budget for a little pop up camper. Something like that where you can combine a grill with a massage. This could be a lot of fun!

If you haven’t started already, you need to get with sales and discuss this promotion. You need ample time to make this work…especially if you’re switching it up and including a little pampering in with the traditional Father’s Day type of giveaway. Just like radio is changing, so are the roles of parenting. We’re rolling with the radio changes, and we can roll with these changes as well.
