Artist to Watch: Inhaler

Even before finding out who the singer’s dad is, I heard this melody and sound that reminded me of a band I listened to in the late 90s. The song, “Your House,” starts off dark, but makes a turn into the bouncy, happy vibe this Spring is sure to see from a lot of up and comers.

Inhaler was originally formed in 2012. The singer had asthma most of his life so his friends started calling them the Inhalers, and it just stuck. Elijah Hewson, Josh Jenkinson, Robert Keating, and Ryan McMahon met in school and bonded over guitar music. There was a specific sound the foursome loved and they spent most of their time searching for new music with that tune. Deciding on forming the band, they played “Smells Like Teen Spirit” at a school assembly. Soon after, they were adding to their extensive cover list, but that didn’t seem to fill the music well they all felt. They started writing their own songs which got them a record deal.

Their first album, It Won’t Always Be Like This, came out in 2021. You can hear Bono in his son, Hewson’s, vocals. It’s uncanny, and once you hear it, you won’t forget it. However, their sound is not like that of U2’s…think Arctic Monkeys meets a mellow version of The Used. The talent is undeniable.

Inhaler has already hit the road with support on Noel Gallagher’s tour and a headlining tour of their own in the states. Their second release, Cuts and Bruises, came out February 17th.

Only in their mid 20s, they’ve definitely set the stage for the future. Apart from the support of Bono, Inhaler has claimed their own sound and shown they will put in the work.
