Artist to Watch: Gigi Perez

Born Giana Brielle Perez, Gigi took 2024 by storm, and 2025 is shaping up to be even better.

Gigi was born in New Jersey but raised in West Palm Beach, Florida. At only 15, she started writing songs. It wasn’t long after she touched pen to paper, she started releasing music. In 2018 she formed a band called Wendy Lane and through this group Gigi let out a couple tracks.

Wanting to learn how to become a better writer and musician, Gigi attended the Berklee College of Music, but left because of the Covid 19 restrictions. This turned out to be a grief stricken year as she lost her older sister, and then her partner broke up with her. To help pass time and get her mind off things, Gigi started uploading videos to Tik Tok. In 2021, her first viral video happened when she released a song called “Celene,” which is her older sister’s name. Her second viral video took off with “Sometimes (Backwood).” Right away, Interscope took notice and signed Gigi.

With Interscope’s support, Gigi went on to release the song, “The Man,” in June 2022. Later that year, Gigi would send out into the world a new song called, “When She Smiles” which is about a toxic relationship. It was also inspired by the song, “When Jamie Smiles,” from the movie Just Friends.

Getting some stage work in, Gigi supported a few artists on their tours including, Noah Cyrus, D4vid, and Coldplay.

By 2023, Gigi came out with her EP, How to Catch a Falling Knife.

However, Interscope let Gigi go by at the beginning of 2024. What could have seemed like an ending, lit a fire in Gigi and she quickly came out with “Normalcy,” followed by “Please Be Rude.” In July, “Sailor Song” was released. As of today, this song has over 629 million listens on Spotify and over 23 million views on YouTube. “Sailor Song” peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 22. In September of 2024, Gigi signed to Island Records.

As for 2025, Gigi has sold out shows in Germany, Netherlands, France, Ireland, and the UK. Coming to the states NY is sold out, Georgia, Washington DC, Phili, San Francisco, and  LA.

This one will be a fun one to watch.
