I’m in my 40’s and even I’ve seen “KPop Demon Hunters.” You can’t escape it! The songs from the movie are all over the radio. Who’s behind these catchy tracks with that beautiful low voice?

The artist known as Ejae provides the singing voice for Rumi in Demon Hunters. She had an even bigger part writing songs for the movie, including the main song “Golden.”

Born Kim Eun-jae in Seoul, she wasn’t the first to enter the entertainment world. Her grandfather is an actor as well as a producer and politician. At 11 years old, Ejae became a trainee at SM Entertainment and stayed there for ten years. While at SM, her low voice was considered a disadvantage, as it was very different from the Pop sounds in Korea. However, she left the company and enrolled in New York University’s Tisch School of the arts. Embellishing on what she learned in school, Ejae taught herself how to produce  and sharpen her writing skills.

KPop acts took note and used her to write songs for groups such as Red Velvet and aespa. Through the years Kjae contined to work with Red Velvet providing lyrics and some production.

Finally, in 2025 Kjae was signed to Prescription Songs, which is an independent music publisher. Shortly after it was made public Kjae would be featured on the soundtrack for Demon Hunters. The Soundtrack reached #2 on the Billboard 200, Golden topped the Billboard Hot 100, while others have charted as well. In early October Ejae announced her debut solo single, “In Another World” will be released later the same month.

Hopefully, this is just the beginning.
