Q&A With Ron Lippock NAB Director of Content

With NAB Show New York less than three weeks away I got a chance to sit down with Ron Lippock, the Director of Content, Programming and Education for the NAB. We discussed what the show has to offer radio personnel, AI, a few can’t miss sessions and more. Here’s what Ron had to say.

Who will benefit the most from attending NAB Show New York: Radio station owners, managers, programmers, sales, promotions, digital staff, engineering or all of the above?

All of the above, for sure! NAB Show New York is intentional about ensuring we don’t just talk about the various technologies impacting radio (and really all audio, including podcasts). Our sessions are designed to bring everyone in the room together to discuss how programing, marketing, production, engineering and technology all work together to put out the best programs. We focus on the innovative ways each role impacts content creation and the bottom line.

For years it seems NAB has been making an effort to include more digital exhibits and sessions, especially with the emergence of AI and the booming creator economy, will we see more of that at NAB Show New York?

Absolutely. NAB Show New York offers a unique lens into how AI is revolutionizing broadcast, media and entertainment – boosting creativity, enhancing personalization and enabling marketing efficiency.

Attendees will get an exclusive education on utilizing AI to elevate their craft and access to a Show floor that is designed as a go-to marketplace for learning fresh perspectives, understanding trends and seamlessly integrating new products into your workflows. It’s where attendees will gain actionable insights, critical skills and powerful connections.

We’ll have some of the leading companies on the Show floor showcasing how AI and the latest cutting-edge technologies can bolster the effectiveness and quality of media, including Telos Alliance, Wheatstone Corporation, Orban Labs, Inc., RCS, WideOrbit, Comrex, GatesAir, AI-Media, Moments Lab and hundreds of other exhibitors.

The sessions at NAB Show Las Vegas seemed a lot more interactive and engaging this year, will the same be true in New York?

Yes, this is an intentional focus at NAB Show New York. As an example, both the Radio+Podcast Interactive Forum and Election Coverage Summit include networking roundtables at the end of their sessions. Attendees will not only learn from leading experts in the industry– they’ll also have the opportunity to learn from and network with their peers on the specific topics that interest them most.

What are some specific can’t-miss sessions radio people should make sure they add to their myNAB Show calendar?

The Radio+Podcast Interactive Forum is a must for anyone in radio or podcasting. The forum includes sessions on talent development, marketing, audio-video technology and strategies, data usage and innovative news and sports programming. The key is that each of these sessions is role diverse. By that, I mean that we’re not having siloed conversations where programmers just speak to programmers and production/technology professionals just speak to one another. The idea is that we have everyone in the room so programmers, marketers, production people, etc. share and learn innovative strategies on how to work more closely together to create amazing content and programs. How can technology better help marketing? How can marketing support programming better? It takes a team to create elite content and marketing programs.

Radio attendees should also check out the education on the Show floor, including the session titled “Beyond the Game: Working with Athletes to Build Media Businesses.”

For radio people, other than the nearest bar, what are some of the best networking opportunities at NAB Show New York?

We’ll bring the bar to attendees with the best networking event in the business for radio professionals – the NAB Marconi Radio Awards on October 9 – featuring a reception at 6 p.m. and a dinner and show at 7 p.m. In addition, the Radio+Podcast Interactive Forum sessions have built-in roundtables after the panels. Networking and learning are key components built into the format of this interactive conference that helps make it unique.

Personally, what are you looking forward to the most about NAB Show New York?

I love meeting all the industry leaders that I work with to create these sessions and hearing the exclusive insights and takeaways they and others will be offering attendees. NAB has done a terrific job of creating a community for radio broadcasters, and it’s clear when you attend the Show. From education and networking to learning about the latest technologies, there’s something for everyone in radio and podcasting.
