Political Ads and Podcasts Ramp Up Ahead of The Presidential Election

With Election Day quickly approaching, political ads are ramping up. In fact, last week over $800 million was spent on ads, and they are anticipating a much bigger campaign in the coming weeks. AdImpact has found Kamala Harris’ camp has spent about $134.94 per second on ads, while Donald Trump’s organization shelled out less, with $82.76 per second.

Even though Trump’s “per second” cost is lower than Harris’, he still has $45.6 million reserved for ads, while Harris has $41.8 million reserved. Because of this, stations are selling out of ad space. AdImpact shows a total of $9.8 BILLION has already been spent in aired political advertising. This is $1.7 billion over what was spent, at this time, in 2020.

Since Biden’s exit, the Democratic ticket’s campaign have outspent the Republicans by about $322 million. Between the two, these campaigns are the first and second largest spending advertisers in the Presidential race, according to AdImpact. Democrats have spent more on ads than Republicans in 11 of the 12 weeks, as of the release date of AdImpact’s findings.

Commercials aren’t the only items getting a lot of use from the political campaigns. Both candidates are utilizing podcasts more than ever before. Podcasts have doubled in listeners since 2016, and both Harris and Trump seem to understand this. According to livenowfox.com, here are the podcasts Harris and Trump have done, as of October 25th:

Kamala Harris:

*Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy”

*Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay”

*Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson’s “All the Smoke”

* “The Howard Stern Show”

*Brene Brown’s “Unlocking Us”

*Charlamagne tha God’s “The Breakfast Club”

Donald Trump:

*Mark Calaway’s “Six Feet Under”

*Andrew Shulz’s “Flagrant”

*Will Compton and Taylor Lewan’s “Bussin with the Boys”

*Theo Von’s “This Past Weekend”

*Adin Ross

* “Lex Fridman Podcast”

* “The Dan Bongino Show”

* “PBD Poscast”

*Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive”

* “All in Podcast”

* “Shawn Ryan Show”

We are less than two weeks away from Election Day and it’s possible the expected ad budget will exceed what was initially proposed. As for podcasts, Trump just appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast and I’m sure Kamala Harris has a few up her sleeves. With record breaking spending and podcasts being utilized more than ever, we are witnessing history in the making.
