Have you seen the Halloween decorations quietly flooding the stores? I’m not mad about it…but it’s also a reminder to get on the Halloween promotions asap! Brainstorming sessions need to happen yesterday and pitches need to be made to sales last night. So what are we doing this year? Here’s a few options:
From what we’ve seen during March Madness…people LOVE their brackets! You can make a bracket for anything! For instance…something that’s consistently argued over is Halloween candy. Which is the best candy? The last weekend in September have people call in with a candy choices. Take their name and number down. If their candy choice goes on the bracket, they do too. Post the bracket October 1st and have a section of your website where people can enter their choices. The winner gets a GC to a local Halloween store and a bag of the candy they suggested.
Sticking with the Bracket scenario…you can never go wrong with scary movies. Same situation with this bracket…take suggestions, take the name and number down, if their movie goes on the bracket, so do they. Hopefully you can get swag from that movie. If not, a GC to a Halloween store and SOMETHING that deals with their movie suggestion would be great.
Scary stories are always good to have on hand. Here’s the twist. It has to be a scary story completed in only a couple sentences. For example: “The driver wasn’t very chatty so I looked at my phone. I had a text saying “this is your uber, I’m outside.” This could be something every Friday. If it’s scary enough, they get a GC. This is a great opportunity to gain callers. Clearly, these will need to be pre-recorded.
Finally, you have to trick or treat. This is such a big opportunity to get in front of listeners. It doesn’t even have to be on Halloween! The Friday before, set up outside the station. Have kids come up in the costumes for candy, spin the prize wheel, and pics! It would be great to have a photo booth going. This is cheap but impactful.
When it comes to Halloween you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. What would peak your interest? Think like a listener. And Have Fun!
